Will to Win Golf Classic / Community Support  (1984-2018)

The SCRC is proud to have been supported since its inception in 1987 by the local community and specifically the Will to Win Golf Classic. The SCRC is effectively a self-supporting enterprise whose operational success relies significantly on external charitable and donation support including the Will to Win Classic; personal interaction between the SCRC leadership and this organization has been essential. From modest beginnings, this charity event was a major sponsor of spinal cord research at the SCRC and raised over $2,000,000 in the past 34 years. These funds have supported trainees and investigators over the years through a number of scholarships, studentships and other awards.

On May 16, 2018 the Spinal Cord Research Centre dedicated a plaque to the major donors and their continued support at a Dedication Ceremony held in the John Buhler Research Centre Atrium at the University of Manitoba. This continuous support has been instrumental in the development of the Spinal Cord Research Centre as an internationally recognized centre for the study of spinal cord function, plasticity, and response to injury, and for the development of trainees who continue to research in this important area, both within Manitoba and further afield.

July 2018 – Present

The Will to Win Golf Classic held its final tournament in July 2018 but continues supporting the SCRC with the yearly awarded Will-to-Win/Manitoba Paraplegic Foundation Studentships and funding of the new human function laboratory at the SCRC.

The Spinal Cord Research Centre gratefully acknowledges the continued support of the Will-to-Win and Manitoba Paraplegic Foundation.
